The foundation of the Christian Doctrine is the Old Testament. Most believers in Jesus Christ enter through the door of the new testament teaching, but if they are to grow they must become knowledgeable of Old Testament. Jesus is the fulfillment of the Old Testament.

Old Testament Parables - Introduction
By Dumb Dog on Sunday, November 13 2011, 13:03
Parables were introduced to us in the New Testament by Jesus. It may be that they were used by others before but not with the emphasis that Jesus used. He used them so often, he was asked why (MT 13:10). A parable is a short story about something common that has a second meaning. The second meaning may be something that is more difficult to understand or may be hidden. It is my belief that Jesus wanted us to begin looking for a deeper meaning to the scriptures, and that the Old Testament if full of parables. As we look into the Old Testament parables you will see that the Bible is very rich in wisdom and structure, much more than humanly possible to construct.

Proverbs 3

Proverbs 3
1My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: 2For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee. 3Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: 4So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man. 5Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. 7Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. 8It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones. 9Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: 10So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine. 11My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction: 12For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth. 13Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. 14For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold. 15She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her. 16Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour. 17Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. 18She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her. 19The LORD by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens. 20By his knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew. 21My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion: 22So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck. 23Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble. 24When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet. 25Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh. 26For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken. 27Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it. 28Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee. 29Devise not evil against thy neighbour, seeing he dwelleth securely by thee. 30Strive not with a man without cause, if he have done thee no harm. 31Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways. 32For the froward is abomination to the LORD: but his secret is with the righteous. 33The curse of the LORD is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the just. 34Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly. 35The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the promotion of fools.

The Worst Sin
By Dumb Dog on Monday, September 5 2011, 13:15
Some may have wondered what is the worst sin; the worst offense before God. Murder? Blasphemy? Inappropriate Sexual Relationships? Lust? Lying? Stealing? Extortion? Which is really the worst? If we knew, maybe we could feel better about ourselves, knowing we are not as bad as some others who have committed the worst. If we knew, maybe we could be better prepared to stay away from the 'big one'.
The devil tempted Eve in the Garden of Eden, trying to get her to sin before God. Did he try to get her to do the worst sin? Let's look. When the devil came to Eve in the form of a serpent, he tried to get her to eat from the forbidden tree. He got her to consider doing what God said not to do. She looked at the fruit and human desire took over. The fruit looked good to eat, it could make her wise. She knew it was wrong, she even feared death. Her lust for the fruit became stronger than God's word to stay away from that one tree. There were many trees with perfect fruit. But this tree, and one stupid act of disobedience, separated Eve, then Adam and everyone after them from the perfect relationship with God, our Father.
Now, eating the forbidden fruit could be considered the greatest sin. But it's really something more than that... Disobedience. Yes we are all affected by Eve's disobedience, but, we are also disobedient. Some may not care what God says, don't care about what the Bible teaches and live anyway they choose. Then there are those who try to live good, to do the right things, to follow Gods word, and they still fall under disobedience. There are none who have not sinned through disobedience. Maybe you didn't murder, blasphemy, have sex outside of a proper marriage (between a man and a women), lust, lye, steal, etc. Or have you? Jesus said if we lust sexually, we have committed adultery. If we have hated someone we have committed murder. The Biblical writer James said, "if we know to do good and don't do it, it is sin". There is no human (other than Jesus) who has not sinned through disobedience.
We are all guilty. Before God we are all sinners. Before God the church-goer is as guilty as the murderer.
Where is the hope then? The hope is in Jesus. He lived a perfect, sinless life and gave himself as a ransom for our wrongs. If we accept him as our Saviour and Lord, we are forgiven. We are cleansed through the blood that he shed. Be obedient to God's Word and accept Jesus today. If it's true, and I know it is, your life will never be the same.

Not by bread alone
By Dumb Dog on Saturday, September 3 2011, 18:12
Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”
Can you tell me what this means?

Something To Believe In
By Dumb Dog on Tuesday, August 30 2011, 16:52
Here's my brief perspective on it from a Biblical viewpoint. God created us to have fellowship with Him, or to say we would have a good relationship. He set some ground rules which we didn't obey. That messed up the relationship. Yet, God still loves us and continued to watch over us and provide for us, even though we don't listen or do what is right. When we would really get out of line He corrects us.
It seems we can not stop messing up and many people don't care at all about what God says or wants. Yet, God still loves us and cares for us more then we can understand. The greatest example of His love is that He sent Jesus Christ into this world to provide a way for us to return to Him. We, by our nature, can never live well enough to return to the relationship we had with God in the beginning. Our good deeds can not erase our wrongs. Jesus, who was perfect in all ways, offered Himself in our place. He gave his life to pay for our transgressions. Yes, Jesus offers us a way to be totally forgiven and return to the relationship we had before with God. All we have to do is accept Him as our Saviour, acknowledging our sins, and asking for our forgiveness. And then starting a new life in which we strive to do Gods will by following the teachings and examples given to us by Jesus.
Don't be fooled to believe that just trying to be good will get you to heaven. You must accept Jesus as your Saviour with a full heart. If your not living your life according to the Bible and have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, there is nothing else that can save you. Your religion will not save you, going to church will not save you. You must have your own relationship with God almighty.

The world is not well.
By Dumb Dog on Monday, August 22 2011, 12:17
It must be obvious that the world is not doing well. Wars, crime, serious financial problems, uncertainty, poverty, famines, crazy weather. People in general are worried. So many doing drugs (legal and illegal) to give them some escape. In general people are so busy, occupied with so many things they seem to be in a crazy race, running in all directions.
What is most needed, for individuals, for nations, for the world, is to return to back to the basics of the Bible. We will find true peace with a relationship with our creator. Religion is NOT the answer. God is not religion. Religion is mans methods to reach God. We don't need religion - we need to seek God in prayer and read Hid word. Let's find what God wants. You will find what He really wants is the best for us. It's His pleasure to see us happy and at peace. But most people don't experience this because that don't seek God, they don't care what the Bible says. How can God work in their life? He asks us to seek Him, seek to do what is right, to be compassionate to others. When we do these things, God begins to work in our lives and we find peace, strength and fulfillment.
This is not hard to do... seek God. Yes I know there are a hundred other things you could be doing right now - but you must make time to seek Him. Open the Bible and begin reading, start with the new testament. If you don't have a Bible you can find the Bible online to read or listen to. God said, "If you seek me you will find me". Talk to God, He hears you; and He want's to have a relationship with you. Start seeking today, you life will never be the same if you sincerely start this journey.
